At Lowcountry Photo Safaris, we take great pride in operating the majority of our tours within or adjacent to the Ashepoo-Combahee-Edisto (ACE) Basin National Estuarine Research Reserve. Spanning 1.6 million acres, this watershed represents one of the largest undeveloped wetland and upland ecosystems remaining on the Atlantic Coast. To date, over 200,000 acres have been preserved, encompassing forested uplands, extensive tidal marshes, managed wetlands, and barrier islands.
The ACE Basin, once dominated by rice plantations, now serves as a vital habitat for waterfowl, migratory birds, and various endangered species. Because one of our primary goals is to explore areas with little to no human development, Beaufort serves as an ideal home base for our excursions. This reserve offers exceptional opportunities for natural history photography, specifically for those interested in seascapes and bird photography.
When booking your next tour, please let us know what your specific artistic focus is. We will prioritize your interests to design a custom outing that meets your goals.
These tours depart from one of three landings on Lady’s Island and St Helena Island
